A kind-hearted student is giving up her summer holidays to volunteer in Romania helping people affected by HIV.
Aimée Perera (21), will swap Bearsden for the city of Targu Mures where she will spend one month working with the Love Light Romania Foundation.
As a volunteer, she will spend time at a residential home for young people with learning difficulties who have HIV and also at a children’s home, working with the Roma community.
Aimée said: “I’m really excited to go and work with the children.
“I think I could make a difference, especially with the Roma children.
“They live in poverty but when they see us and the chances we have through education, it could break the cycle of poverty.”
Aimée studies microbiology at the University of Dundee and heard about the project through a student run charity called DARE.
She said: “It might be a culture shock.
